Summary: This morning, President Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize. A recognized prestigious award. The Nobel Peace Committee agreed Obama should receive it for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and co-operation between peoples".
The article itself explains in depth why Obama received it which is: "It was because we would like to support what he is trying to achieve". And of course, this is causing much controversy, not only within the United States, but the entire world. The UN's "nuclear watchdog" Mohamed ElBaradei strongly agrees that the award given to Barack Obama is well deserved. On the other end of the line, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid believes the award is being given to a person who escalates violence and is the cause of the innocent death of civilians.
Personally, I think this is great. I believe the more support Obama receives, the more motivation he'll receive to actually get our enconomy and country whipped into shape, and he's been awarded with this prize for that exact reason. Of course, the Nobel Peace Committee isn't going to say that upfront, but I strongly believe this was the true intent of the award given to the President of the United States.
